The Desert Sled, as the name goes is a motorcycle belongs to the harsh and hot desert. Back in the 60s and 70s, riders used to customise and develop their motorcycle to suits the harsh and high temperatures of the Californian desert. The customisation ranges from motorcycles over 500cc and comes with heavy duty knobbly tyres, highly reinforced suspensions, very rigid spoked wheels and hard cased engine protection plates to enable the motorcycle to cross the very harsh and high temperatures of the desert.



Ducati followed this legendary custom and decided to make a motorcycle entirely for this purpose, and that's how the Scrambler Desert Sled was born. While making this motorcycles, Ducati was successful in preserving the legacy and heritage of the mighty Desert Sleds that conquered the deserts and hefty mountains of California back in the old times.

Looks
The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled looks a more like any other Scrambler, but with knobby tyres, fly mudguards and teardrop fuel tank with a grilled headlamp to make it more suits to the harsh conditions. The looks of the Desert Sled commands unique dynamics and power that matches with the harshness of the Desert. Ducati has provided with a LED with light guides at the front and an LED Tail Lamp with diffusion lights at the rear. The illumination setup gives the Desert Sled a unique appearance while at night.



Engine

The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled comes with an L-Twin 803 cc air and oil-cooled engine with Desmodromic distribution. The engine has the capacity to produce 75 bhp of power at 8,250 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm. The massive engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.The Sled uses Electronic fuel injection with 50 mm throttle body system as its Fuel System and comes with APTC wet multiplate with mechanical control as its clutch system.

Chassis, Suspension and Braking

Being a Desert Sled emerged from the DNA of the Urban Enduro, the Ducati Desert Sled has off-road capabilities to make it more usable for riders while on off-road also. The Sled comes with a very strong and heavy duty Tubular steel Trellis frame to make it stronger while engaging on mountains and roads.



The braking system of the Sled comes with 330 mm disc, radial 4-piston calliper with ABS as standard equipment at the front and a 245 mm disc, 1-piston floating calliper with ABS as standard equipment at the rear. Ducati has provided Spoked Aluminium wheels to the Sled instead of alloy wheels to make it withstand the untamed deserts and mountains. A Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres are provided within the bike as standard fitment at the front and rear. The Desert Sled comes with an overall weight of 207 kg.
