The Auto Expo 2014 had witnessed the introduction of a 150cc scooter with Aprilia badge. Since then, all eyes were waiting for that Italian kit. Just like as everyone expected, this Aprilia has changed all the principles and rules which Indian scooters have been following. Above all, the most amazing factor is that, it is the cheapest Aprilia one could put their hands on it. So far, SR 150 stands as the most powerful and feature studded scooter in India. Engineers of Aprilia has indulged many racing features in this scooter which have changed the face of Indian two-wheeler industry.
Engine
The mill that powers SR 150 is the same 154.8cc, 4-stroke engine used to drive the Vespa 150. It churns out the same 11.5 PS of maximum power and 11.5 Nm of peak torque under the Vespa badge. But the sporty design of Aprilia make it feels even lighter and agile. It uses a Continuous Variable Transmission for super smooth drive with help of dry centrifugal clutch. A tubular chassis with open single cradle protects the engine and other relevant components. With the likes of built quality of Tuono V4 and RSV4 in the vicinity, SR 150 would be one rigid scooter.
Features
SR 150 combines the convenience of an automatic scooter with the attitude of a sports bike. Like the powerful engine, its Italian design and technology are two major attractive factor. The beak on the front wheel gives the spirit of Supermotard family of Aprilia. The sporty handlebar with integrated turn indicator lights and the double barrel headlight unit itself separates SR 150 from the entire scooter clan. Twin pod instrument console, a bag hook, sporty-dual tone seats with pillion grab handles, sporty styled exhaust and stylish sporty tail lights are other cosmetic features of this scooter. It also has ample under seat storage space with USB connector for charging mobile phones. The usage of larger 14-inch alloy wheels in SR 150 is first of its kind in scooters here.
Braking and Suspension
It features a hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and single arm rear suspension at the rear for an enhanced riding experience and comfort. For safer braking, it uses 220mm ventilated disc brakes with two piston calipers at the front and 140mm rear drum brakes at the rear wheel. Wider sports street tyres are used for superior road control and grip.
Final Words
There are many positive points about SR 150, that one should definitely buy it. One of the many such factor is that it is an Aprilia. For a petrol head, that is more than enough. The Italian design and built quality is considered to be World's best and this all comes packed in one scooter for Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The top speed of this scooter is 98kmph which is said to be the fastest gear-less scooter we have.
Aprilia introduced this scooter to India with a tag line saying, "India, It's Race Day" and which means a lot. The success story of SR 150 has encouraged Aprilia to develop new scooters in the backstage for upcoming years. Meanwhile it has grabbed many "Scooter of the year" awards from many media within short arrival of time.
