The year 2017 and the 1st of April has a significance impact on the Indian automobile industry. The ban on selling and registration of BS-III vehicles by the Supreme Court of India came on to effective from the April 1st. According to this emission norms, BS-III compliant vehicles will become obsolete. Because of this issue, manufacturers were compelled to discontinue some of their models from the market. Meanwhile, rest of the models were upgraded to BS-IV version before the 31st March of 2017.
This whole scenario has resulted the two-wheeler as well as four wheeler manufacturers to suffer a huge loss. They were forced to sold their BS-III models with a massive discount before the conclusion of fiscal year.
Some of the best selling models like Honda CBR 250R and 150R, Hero Impulse and Suzuki Swish get discontinued by their respective brands. This may only be a temporary withdrawal as they may relaunch their offerings with the BS-IV complaint engine and some minor cosmetic updates.
