Duet 110 is the all new scooter from Hero MotoCorp slotted in between Pleasure and Maestro. This unisex scooter was developed by Hero MotoCorp along with the Maestro. Unlike Maestro, this one primarily targets both men and lady riders. It is slightly bigger than pleasure, but compact than Maestro. Hero launched this scooter on 2015.
Design and Features
Duet has been designed in simple and standard format without any offbeat outfits. Metallic body is the main attraction of this scooter, which gives a premium feel and proper fit and finish. Starting from the front, the headlight is blended with handlebar unit and turn indicators are also integrated alongside it.
Some elements of chrome is used in the front fascia and sides of the body kit. Other cosmetic outfits like 3D chrome 'Duet' badging, dual tone rear view mirrors and multi reflector tail lamps adds up the visual beauty of this scooter.
A combination of digital and analog instrument console is used in this scooter. Side stand indicators and service light has been also used in this scooter. And about the switch gear, it is not so premium or has a quality of Maestro Edge, but it does keep the minimum standard. The only disappointing factor is the quality of fibre used in dashboard. Other important features of this scooter includes, external fuel cap, underseat bulb, USB charging port and a multi-functioned ignition key.
Engine
The Duet is powered by 110.9cc, single cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine. This engine is featured in the Hero Maestro Edge as well. The mill delivers a maximum power of 8.31 bhp @ 8000 rpm and a peak torque of 8.30 Nm @ 6500 rpm. Top speed of this scooter is subjected to be 85kmph, which is same as that of Maestro Edge. Engine uses Variomatic drive for the power transmission and it is done with the help of an automatic clutch. These figures and stats are similar to it's elder sibling Maestro Edge.
At higher speeds vibrations can be felt at foot board and the NVH levels of the scooter is bit higher. It isn't smooth as the Maestro and it is bit slower to take off. The speed range of 40 to 50 kmph is rather advised for smooth and convenient operation. But the engine rather fits perfect in the body kit and it performs well on the street rides. The average fuel efficiency of Duet is around 50 to 54 kmpl.
Chassis, Suspension and Braking
The whole scooter is built around high rigidity under bone type frame, which is found in other Hero scooters as well. In Duet 110, it is more compact and lean at some areas. Duet comes up with telescopic forks at the front and unit swing with spring hydraulic dampers at the rear. Most of the scooters in this category features trailing link set up suspension system. It does manages to go over speedbumps, potholes and non tarmac stretches without any hustle. Conventional drum brakes deals with the stopping force of the scooter. 130Mm internal expanding shoe type brake is featured at the front wheels. Integrated braking system is also used in this scooter.
Conclusion
This unisex scooter is perfectly made with all required amenities and technical inputs. Hero engineers has used a basic design structure and minimal style features for this scooter. No unwanted stickery or graphics works has been used for Duet 110. As Hero claims, it is a perfect family scooter with good fuel economy, fair amount of engine power and standard design features and advanced amenities. Honda Activa i, TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Lets are the alternatives for this Hero scooter.
