When Yamaha decides to take on the Honda's futuristic scooter the Zoomer-X, it paved the way for another exciting product called the 'QBIX'. It was launched in 2017 Bangkok International Motor Show with a possible entry in the Thailand market.
Yamaha calls the QBIX as a futuristic smart scooter featuring a class-leading design and innovative features. Aesthetically, it looks different from the conventional scooter design. From the exterior, it resembles something from a science fiction movie. The full LED horizontal headlamp, full LED tail lamp and the exposed handlebar make this scooter a unique product. Yamaha has also imposed some smart features such as full LCD instrument console and answer back system to recognize the scooter in a crowded parking. It also gets mobile charging socket and the massive 22.5 litre under seat storage space. Moreover, the high-end model features smart key, which enables the bike to be started with the key simply in the rider's pocket. This system works with the help of a transponder placed inside the key fob.
The QBIX also gets some intelligent features in its powerhouse as well. The advanced Stop & Start system turns off the engine while idling for more than 5 seconds. The engine comes to life again with a twist of the throttle. It uses the 125cc, Yamaha Blue Core engine which optimizes the fuel combustion and also helps in reducing pollution. This fuel injected engine is teamed with automatic transmission for smooth operation.
The Yamaha QBIX is available in three different variants featuring four different colours. The top-of-the-line model gets ABS along with the front disc brake. Whereas, others get a front disc and rear drum brakes. The QBIX rides on wide 12-inch, 140 mm tires for maximum safety and riding comfort.
Currently, QBIX is available in the Japanese and Thailand market. With the likes of Honda Navi and recently launched Cliq, the 2017 QBIX could be a good move from the Japanese to compete with the Honda. However, the Yamaha is yet to make an official statement regarding the India launch of QBIX.
