The CRF is one of the famous motocross and trail motorcycles series manufactured by Honda motorcycles of Japan. Earlier this year, Honda Motorcycles had launched their first adventure motorcycle Honda CRF 1200L Africa Twin in India. It is the flagship model of the iconic CRF series. However, in this article section, we are gonna meet the youngest member of this family, the CRF 250L.
The Honda CRF 250 series comes in CRF 250L and CRF 250L Rally models. Both the engines are powered by 249.6cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine delivering a maximum power of 24 bhp @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 22.6 Nm @ 6750 rpm which is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Moreover, the engine features a counter balancer, which helps in smooth operations. This engine uses advanced PGM-Fuel Injection technology found in cars. It is simple, light weight and delivers excellent fuel economy and features a broad powerband with plenty of low-revving torque, just what needed for an all terrain motorcycle. Fuel efficiency is one big attractive factor of this bike.
The bike is constructed with a strong steel frame, which is capable enough to withstand the real world roughness. It even features the single shock Pro-Link rear suspension which offers superior balance and comfort on both off and on roads. Moreover, both the front and rear suspension offers more travel and good ground clearance. This Honda CRF 250L is a comfortable dual-sport bike. It gets long, motocross-style seats that enable the rider to move forward and backward and also helps in balancing and navigating the bike through changing terrains.
On moving to the cosmetic department, the bike gets Rally like dual pod headlamp which houses tall windscreen on the top, extra fairings and side panels and frame mounted body works on the CRF 250L Rally. Meanwhile, the CRF 250L gets trapezoidal headlamp with white headlamp cowl. It features 21-inch and 18-inch wheels with a wide selection of tyres at front and back respectively. It suits both the off-road on-road terrains equally good.
With the launch of the Africa Twin in last year, Honda may try exploiting their strategies in the enduro category with this youngster as well. However, for the time being, the makers had not shown any interest in the India launch of CRF 250L. Kawasaki is doing good with their KLX range of adventure cum motocross bikes from which Honda may get inspired in the future.
