For every motorcycle brand, there will be one auspicious model or series which is considered as their prestige segment. The famous "GSX" range is one such group of motorcycles, which is the pride of Suzuki Motorcycles of Japan. The youngest member of this family is the new GSX-S125, launched in 2017. Suzuki introduced this model to revolutionize the light weight motorcycle class in the market.
This 125cc GSX was showcased at 2016 EICMA festival of Milan. It was accompanied by its fairer sibling, the GSX-R 125. Both the models are powered by 124.4cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve single cylinder engine, mated with 6-speed manual transmission. This newly developed single cylinder engine is almost the one-quarter of GSX-R600 engine.
The primary objective of this compact powerplant is combustion efficiency, fuel efficiency and the optimal balance of the engine performance. It offers the finest weight-to-power ratio and weight-to-torque ratio. Moreover, the engine features advanced electronic fuel injection, ECM, Throttle position sensor and air intake pressure sensor and a high-performance dual-exit exhaust system at the tail end.
The engineers of Suzuki has used a new exciting and aggressive design structure. At the front, it gets a new headlight cowl and the digital instrumentation has taken place behind it. The LED position lights accompany the LED headlight in front. The sculpted fuel tank, lowered engine cowl and high raised tail section are all part of its aggressive styling. The race spec split seat enhances its sporty nature. Other, mechanical additions include petal disc brakes, ABD unit, cast aluminum wheels, link type rear suspension and hydraulic front fork suspension. Suzuki has used steel tube backbone frame which has optimal torsional rigidity. It is the lightest 125cc street bike with a weight of 133kg.
This particular model is available in some international markets such as Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and some European nations as well. If it happens to launch in India, it will be tagged under the Gixxer series, just like the Gixxer 150 (Gixxer 150 is the Indian version of the second generation GSX-S150). The much dynamic 2017 KTM Duke 125 is one of the best alternatives of GSX-S125.
