If the sources are right, we motorcycle fabs have something to cherish in the name of a bi-wheeler. That is, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati is bringing in its entry level motorcycle, the Monster 696 to India. At present Ducati Monster 795 is the most affordable Ducati machine available in India.
Earlier in the 2013 Union Budget, the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram announced hike in the duty amount of imported and premium motorcycles. With the new Budget, the duty of imported bikes has been increased to 100% from 75%, whereas motorcycles above 800cc engine now has a raised duty of 75% from 60%.
So it would be hard to sell out the Monster 795 and all other higher priced machines at increased price tags. Thus the Italian is tricking out some motorcycle businesses here by rolling out a bi-wheeler which is under 800cc segment. Because, vehicles under 800cc segment is still enjoying the same 60% duty tax.
The new strategies taken by the India government has severely caused the growth rate of premium motorcycle in Indian in negative manner. To rise up from the extra levy, Harley Davidson added 3 more motorcycles in its Complete Knocked Down (CKD) procedure. The CKD helps the companies to skip away from the unbearable tax payment and manufacturer can hand over the benefit to customers.
Ducati had recently launched the 20th Anniversary Edition Monster 696. The special edition bike is wedded with expensive and unique cosmetics rather than its predecessor. However, it is uncertain whether the company will roll out the 20th Anniversary Edition in India.
The Monster 696 is coupled with a 696cc, L-Twin cylinder, 2 valve per cylinder Desmodromic, air cooled engine. The machine is capable to produce astounding power of 80 hp @ 9000 rpm and staggering torque of 69 Nm @ 7750 rpm. Its engine is mated with a 6 speed gear transmission and Siemens electronic fuel injection to ensure better better fuel efficiency.
The bike has all qualities to be treated as an extra brilliant naked on road. The sketch of the Monster 696 makes the bike a true wanderer in the streets. The bike is moulded out of tubular steel trellis frame that certifies more stability to the motorcycle. It weighs only 161 kg (dry weight) and has a fuel tank capacity of 15 liters. The Monster 696 is also available in ABS (optional).
Unfortunately, there is no source regarding the official price of Ducati Monster 696. Still, it is expected to be priced below Rs.6 lakh.
