India's fourth largest motorcycle manufacturer, TVS Motor Company is likely to launch its much awaited electric scooter, Qube this year. When the hybrid bi-wheeler was firstly appeared at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo, the scooter was paid a lot of starring attention and soon was placed in the columns of almost all moto-magazines, moto-websites and news papers. As the rumours are striking out again regarding the launch of the Qube hybrid scooter, the matter once again is made up to be read for moto enthusiasts.
TVS Qube is precisely the first Indian made hybrid scooter. And while it comes from the home where the most popular scooter brand in India, Scooty is built, the anticipations would reach beyond clouds.
While launching TVS Phoenix last year, Venu Srinivasan, the Chairman of TVS Motor Company had said that the company would be launching a two wheeler in every quarter for the first 18 months. That means until the half of 2014, TVS will unveil 6 bi-wheelers excluding the Phoenix. So moto-maniacs can see 4 new machines from TVS in 2013.
The Qube is operated by two sources. It is equipped with an electric hub motor and a 100 cc, four-stroke engine. The rider can choose the source by which the scooter is to be driven. The highlight of this scooter is that it converts energy and store. When the brake is applied, the battery is charged by the hybrid system and stores the energy and uses it whenever it is required. Additionally, the bike engine automatically turns off to save energy while trapped at the heavy traffic jams in cities. It is just like the blueMotion and blueEFFCIENCY technology used in premium cars.
When the scooter is driven by the electric motor, zero consumption of petrol is needed. That is scooter can be run for a short drive after recharging the electric motor. Else if you need to have a more powerful ride, you should switch on the petrol powered engine.
The scooter can also be run in two different modes, Hybrid Economy Mode and Hybrid Power Mode. In the Hybrid economy mode, the engine and electric motor run as per the programmed strategy, whereas in the Hybrid power mode, the engine and electric motor goes the way the rider wants to be.
TVS calls it the green technology by which, CO2 emission is reduced by 35%, while HC + Nox is declined by 30%, and fuel economy is jumped by 35%. This results a mileage of 70 kmpl under standard conditions. The Qube is expected to be priced around Rs.75,000. Nevertheless, the launch date is yet to be fixed and to be officially announced.
Simultaneously, TVS is also planning to relaunch the upgraded Victor bike and a new 125 cc. Scooter
