Someone told me that the most precious wealth of a person is without any doubt his memories. So I decided to set out and make as many memories as possible so that I can be the wealthiest person with infinite memories. Athirapally has been one of the most adventurous and finest memories I have ever made.
The ride to the falls in my very own Dio was a dream come true. Apart from the memories I posses, another asset that I treasure are my friends who stick along with me even through out my craziest deeds. So as usual a group of us decided to go on a ride to the famous falls of Athirapally. Athirapally is 72 kms away from Kochi which is around a 2hr ride.
On a yet another warm Saturday morning we set off to the incredible falls of Athirapally. The whole riding experience was wonderful. We travelled through roads that was almost like woods. The terrible sounds of motor vehicle horns and machines were replaced with the soothing sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves. It was an ultimate experience of peace. Adding to this were the songs sung by my friends all along the thoroughfare. Dio once again proved too good a companion for the ride.
After reaching Athirapally we need to trek for about 15-20 minutes to reach the heart of the falls. So we decided to take a brunch break before entering the falls in a nearby restaurant. The restaurant gave the perfect view of the falls but from a distance. The food was delicious. The best thing about the place is that people are so friendly and will treat you like family. You could even get into their kitchen and get whatever you want. Too down to earth are the people that they probably would trust you more than your classmates or colleagues would.
Eventually we started to explore through the jungles that took us to the falls. There were a lot of monkeys all along the path to accompany us. We then reached the cool streams of water that hurried towards the falls. Many people were playing and even bathing in the fresh water. The water was cool and crystal clear. We sat near the streams for a while and then continued our walking expedition. Excitement kept building up as we neared the falls. It became impossible to ignore the sound of the falls with each steps. Although tired, the anticipation took us forward.
After 20 minutes of off-road trekking we finally reached our destination - the breath-taking beauty, the falls of Athirapally. The memory of the sight still makes me speechless. It was like the best gift I have ever gifted my eyes.
After sometime we started our return journey. All we could talk about was the amazing falls. All those who have never been there must add it to your bucket list. It was a one time experience and is one of my best treasured memories. I will be forever indebted to my Dio who took me there. Long long distances with very little fuel, tested, proved and satisfied.
