With Bajaj's Chetak in the news with a rumoured re-launch, another oldie has also resurfaced from its sleep. We are talking about the Luna. Yes, you heard it right!
So, just like its tag-line “Chal Meri Luna” (meaning Come on Luna) jingled through the ads, the Luna is going to appear in the scene once again. The popular moped first appeared on the roads in 1972, after which it shot to fame. It was a minimal effort two-wheeler that helped bicycle riders move up to a superior mode of transport. It had a smooth and stylish chrome body with both a regular and a pedal kick start.
The moped which initially belonged to Kinetic, later on was sold amongst the other major stakes to Mahindra & Mahindra, in order to prevent Kinetic motors from being shut down completely due to major losses. When everyone thought the moped had faced complete extinction from the two-wheeler scenario, M&M decides to bring back the Luna with a bang.
The new Luna is expected to make its comeback as two different models named as the Luna and the Luna TFR. According to the speculations, M&M may revamp the moped completely by fitting in a 75cc engine instead of the previous 50cc one.
Though the manufacturer hasn't made any serious comments on this news, its is definite that Mahindra & Mahindra would get a definite sales boost that it needs in its two-wheeler segment with the re-launch of this popular moped. Moreover, the Luna is something that the company can look upon as one among its export products, especially to markets such as Africa.
So, lets hope that we get to hear the “Chal Meri Luna” tunes once again.
