Yamaha India's First Scooter, Ray Launched

After a long chase, India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM) launched its much awaited scooter, Ray. With the launch of Ray, IYM entered into the Indian market of scooters. The first IYM scooter was unveiled by Bollywood actress and the Ray scooter ambassador, Ms. Deepika Padukone.



"For Global Yamaha Motor group, India Yamaha Motor holds great importance as a strategic production and sales base. By 2018, our total production capacity in India will reach 2.8 million units. At that point, India will play an extremely important role among Yamaha group, not just in supplying to the Indian market but also in exporting to other markets. We will aggressively transfer technology to accelerate the two-wheeler industry" said the President and CEO of Yamaha Motor Company Ltd, Mr. Hiroyuki Yanagi.



The all new scooter, Ray comes with a 113cc, Air cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC,2-valve, Single cylinder. It is powered by a maximum output of 7.1PS power at 7500rpm and maximum torque of 8.1Nm at 5000rpm. The scooter is priced at Rs. 46,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi), which is exactly a reasonable and competitive tag. IYM claims that the Ray is best in its class comparing, power, engine displacement and mileage to its rivals. The Ray is expected to provide an economy of 45 kmpl.



Yamaha's vision is transparent that is to target young girls and families where every members use scooters to travel. Yamaha plans to sell 1 million units by 2014 and 2 million by 2016. It is certain that the new launch would wave hearts of many youngsters in the country.
