Snapdeal, the popular online platform for buying and selling goods in India, has tied up with the Italian automobile manufacturer Piaggio and as a result of their partnership, Snapdeal now offers bookings for the Piaggio Vespa scooters.



With the e-commerce segment gaining tremendous popularity within the country and making things easier for individuals to buy or sell products, Snapdeal, one of the major e-commerce giants in India recently tied up with Hero MotoCorp and Mahindra and now Piaggio too. The initiative was taken by the auto giants and they are primarily looking to target the interested buyers who wouldn't want to make visits to the dealership to get to know about their products and also to ease the initial booking paperwork. The booking price is Rs 5000 for the scooter and mind you, the booking cannot be cancelled. However, once the booking has been made, Snapdeal will automatically direct the customer to the nearest dealership for a visit and to make final arrangements regarding finances. The booking amount will be deducted from the final on – road price and the vehicle will be delivered within 2-5 days after the visit to the allocated dealership.



The ex-showroom prices at different locations in India of the vehicle has been displayed at Snapdeal's website. One of the major attractions of this innovative scheme is that Snapdeal would transfer an amount of 2000SD cash/points after 30 days for the first hundred customers which can be used to buy items on Snapdeal. Hero and Mahindra had collaborated with Snapdeal in 2014 and have since made their entire range of products up for booking on Snapdeal. With Piaggio joining the fray, Snapdeal should witness an increase in the user traffic and also bringing in more customers for the auto maker.



However, something that's quite intriguing is the fact about the booking and the consequent allotment for a dealership visit. It really does not make much of a difference in going directly to a dealership and making a booking. Nevertheless, it is a bold move by both players and should reduce the difficulty in procuring the vehicle.
