Introducing the Chetak Urbane
Bajaj Auto has introduced its latest offering in the electric scooter segment, the Chetak Urbane. Priced at Rs 1.15 lakh for the base model, and Rs 1.21 lakh for the enhanced Tecpac version, this scooter marks a significant step in Bajaj's journey towards sustainable transportation.
Enhanced Range and Features
The Chetak Urbane boasts an improved range, with the Bajaj website indicating a 113km range under ideal conditions (IDC-certified), surpassing the current Chetak's real-world range of 108km. It's important to note, though, that the Urbane's real-world performance is yet to be tested. Despite this, both models share the same 2.9kWh battery capacity, ensuring consistent power delivery.
Display and Performance
Retaining the color LCD display from the Premium variant, the Urbane in its basic version offers a top speed of 63kph and an Eco riding mode for efficient usage. With the Tecpac upgrade, the speed increases to 73kph, and an additional Sport mode enhances the riding experience.
Comparative Analysis
While the Urbane introduces several upgrades, it also sees a reduction in charging power, dropping from 800W to 650W. This change leads to an increased charging time, now taking approximately 4 hours and 50 minutes. Another notable change is the exclusive use of drum brakes, differing from the current Chetak Premium.
Future Expectations
The launch of the Chetak Urbane suggests that Bajaj may soon update its Chetak Premium model to align with or surpass the Urbane's new features and capabilities.
Closing Thoughts
The Chetak Urbane is a promising step towards advanced electric mobility. While it presents a blend of improved and altered features, its real-world performance remains a key aspect for potential buyers. Bajaj's commitment to evolving in the electric scooter market is evident with this launch, setting the stage for future innovations.
