Honda Scooters and Motorcycles India is clearly taking the aggressive route this year and Honda is clearly on a launch frenzy and has introduced the 2015 Honda Activa-i and the 2015 Honda Aviator.
Honda, as part of its commitment towards the 'Make In India' initiative, had already launched a few products as per this year's proposal of introducing fifteen new products for the Indian buyer to choose. It is also planning on launching the CBR650F sportbike in this financial year and is currently undergoing testing and getting its pre-launch paperwork done. What was indeed surprising though was the launch of Honda's market winner and customer favorite, the Honda Activa, with its 2015 model. The Honda Activa 2015 is based on the Activa-i version, which was launched at the end of last year, and is basically a refreshed version of the same, meaning it won't have mechanical changes. The same goes for the Honda Aviator, too, with external changes being added to make it look refreshing and catchy.
The 2015 Honda Activa-i and the 2015 Honda Aviator have been marketed carefully by Honda to mainly capture the hearts of the rising female scooter riding population. Since the market is now witness to various scooters being launched by various companies, Honda was keen to make its stand firm and showcase itself as the clear leader. The new 2015 Honda Activa-i comes with updated body panels and floral graphics have been added to the sides to increase its level of appeal. Of the little changes to the body, the scooter gets a new coloured inner body panel, gloss black exhaust unit, the rear tire fender/hugger has been made larger, tubeless tires, new footboard and improved seating. Powering the scooter is the same engine as seen on the previous versions of the scooter, the 109.2cc engine that produces 8bhp @ 7000RPM and a torque of 8.7Nm @ 5500RPM and the power is transmitted to the wheels via the V-matic transmission. Honda had also adopted the Honda Eco Technology and added it to its scooters. New colour schemes include: Pearl Amazing White and Orchid Purple.
The 2015 Honda Aviator is an attempt by Honda India at reviving the scooter's lost glory. It had once made headlines across the country when India's scooter arena had seen nothing like the Aviator. However, life was tough for the Aviator and sales charts didn't look too good. The recent launch of the Aviator with stylish new colour schemes and a new seat, should put it as a fierce competitor in the scooter segment. The 2015 Aviator gets four colours to choose from Pear White, Autumn Beige, Black and Alpha-Red. The engine is the same as the predecessor and gets the 109.2cc, 8bhp, 8.7Nm engine.
The two new scooters were launched with much fanfare and another highlight of the event was Taapsee Pannu, who was chosen as the brand ambassador for Honda's scooter segment. With the launch of the scooters, the Japanese auto giant is waiting to deliver the Honda Livo, a replacement for the outgoing CB Twister and as mentioned earlier, the CBR650F with its launch being imminent, should set about a new trend on Indian roads.
Honda has priced the 2015 Activa-i at Rs 46,213 for the standard version and Rs 46,703 for the Deluxe version; 2015 Aviator gets a pricing of Rs 50,863 for standard and Rs 56,209 for the deluxe models (ex-showroom Delhi).
