The new Gold Wing is lighter, sleeker and flooded with technologies
Honda revealed 2018 Gold Wing at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. It is the sixth evolution of Honda's flagship tourer, which has been continuously in production for almost 43 years. The GL 1800 Goldwing is based on the redesigned six-cylinder boxer engine with fewer design changes.
2018 Goldwing gets a slew of changes like double wishbone front suspension, 7-speed DCT and integrated Apple CarPlay multimedia system. The new version sheds a lot of weight by using smaller and lighter engine which altogether weighs 38 kg lesser than the previous model. It uses high strength aluminum cylinder sleeves to reduce the weight. The Goldwing engine features single camshaft in unicam set-up found in the Honda VFR. Eventhough it follows strict Euro-IV emission norms, the mill produces a peak power of 125 bhp @ 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 170 Nm @ 4500 rpm. The engine now gets electronic ride-by-wire with idle stop function which kills the engine when it is in idle for more than 3 seconds. It works with the help of Honda's Integrated Starter Generator, which works by fusing generator and starter motor into one single component. Moreover, the mill also offers four riding modes such as tour, sport, economy and rain along with Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control and Switchable Traction Control.
The 2018 Honda Gold Wing is available in three different trims such as Standard, Automatic DCT and Gold Wing Tour option in the USA with a pricing starting from Rs 15.25 lakhs to Rs 17.3 lakhs.
