The wait is over and here comes our first 1299 Superleggera. Yes, the limited edition and the most expensive road legal production bikes of recent times got delivered in India. Mr. Vikram Oberoi is that Indian guy who paid the staggering Rs 1.12 Crores for this Italian beast. Oberoi is a passionate motorcyclist and a Ducati lover who also owns few Desmodromics like Ducati 1299 Panigale S, Ducati 1098 and Ducati 916. The event took place at India's motoring hub, the Buddh International Circuit.
With just 500 units for sale, he is the first and only customer in India to own the Superleggera. This superbike was teased as "Project 1408" and was globally unveiled in January 2017.
The Ducati Superleggera 1299 is the most advanced and exclusive bike that Ducati has ever made. Weaved in Carbon Fibre, it is the first Ducati and the production bike in the world to get the carbon fibre main frame, subframe, swing arm and even wheels are made from the same Carbon fabric. Even the fairings are crafted in this exotic material as well. With a dry weight of 156kgs, it is super light and fastest road legal Ducati on the planet. The L-Twin 1285cc Desmodromic engine made with Tungsten balanced crankshaft, Titanium connecting rods, lighter flywheel and aluminium cylinder liners which make it the lightest twin cylinder sports bike. Even though it meets the Euro-4 emission standards, it does deliver 215 bhp power and 146.5 Nm of maximum torque. Moreover, it has got Ohlins TTX36 rear suspension with Titanium springs and fully adjustable 43mm USD Öhlins FL 936 fork which has helped in shedding some kilos. The upgraded Akrapovic exhaust kit has also added an extra flavour in this machine by delivering a pleasing exhaust note.
The new Ducati 1299 Superleggera is accompanied by a race kit which includes, Ducati Data Analyser and data capture system, race screen, kickstand removal kit, billet mirror plugs, front and rear paddock stands, bike cover and the exotic Akrapovic race exhaust.
