Aiming the working executives and ladies, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Private Limited (HMSI) launched its first personal compact class scooter, the Activa i. The scooter is priced at Rs. 44,200/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is available in four attractive colors- Purple Metallic, Alpha Red Metallic, Pearl Sunbeam White, and Biege Metallic. The scooter will be available in Honda stores across the country by the end of June.
The all new Activa i is coupled with the same 109cc, Air cooled, 4-stroke, Single cylinder, OHC, HET (Honda Eco Technology) engine that is used in the Dio, Activa, and the Aviator. The Activa i delivers maximum power of 8 bhp @ 7500 rpm and gorgeous torque of 8.74 Nm @ 5500 rpm. Its engine is coupled with V-matic transmission. Wedded with Honda's latest technology, HET, the firm offers 60 kmpl mileage for the Activa i.
The Activa i is loaded with good number of features. Its braking system is of Combi Brake System (CBS), which reduces braking distance by 24%. This enables more stability and confidence to the rider. More interestingly, the machine weighs only 103 kgs, which alloys even the beginners to ride the scooter so easily. Maintenance free battery, viscous air filter, tubeless tyres, 18 liters underseat storage, newly designed instrument panel, long seat, tail lamp, hugger fender, and muffler are the other key features of the Activa i.
Having Drum brakes at both ends, the scooter never compensates braking. Meanwhile, spring-loaded hydraulic type suspension at both sides ensure a better scooter trip. The Activa i does have an incredible ground clearance of 165mm making the scooter moveable through the most surfaces.
However, the launch of the same 109 engined scooter will be a disappointment for those who wished a 125cc scooter from Honda. Although Honda demands that the Activa i stays in the personal compact scooter category, the company is certainly missing a powerful or a performing scooter in 125cc class. By launching the same engined machine most of the scooter lovers might not feel anything newness in it.
"I defines everyone of us. Activa i is for those who wnat to be independent and have a strong desire of self reliance in their personal mobility. Honda's new scooter is designed to appeal for both male and female. Approximately 25% of personal scooter category remains unrepresented. To expand the leadership position and various customer need it was imperative for Honda to make presence in the personal compact scooter class," said Mr.Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Vice President - Sales & Marketing at HMSI.
