Mercedes-Benz India finally launched the much-anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT S in the country at ₹2.40 Crore. The AMG GT S, a more powerful version of the AMG GT, was launched in the presence of Bernd Schneider the most successful DTM driver of all time with a total of 43 victories. The Mercedes-AMG GT S has come as a replacement for the SLS AMG. Now the fastest AMG in India, the GT S is built on the principle of 'Handcrafted by Racers' and also serves as the Official Safety Car of the FIA Formula One World Championship. Set to take on the likes of Jaguar F-Type, Porsche 911, Audi R8 and other cars in the performance category, the Mercedes-AMG GT S is built on the smaller version of the SLS AMG’s platform. This platform is claimed to be lighter and stiffer than the one that used to underpin the SLS AMG.
Styling and proportions of the AMG GT S make it quite appealing and distinct. It still has the SLS AMG inspired prominent haunches that add to its sporty stance. The small cabin and elongated bonnet gives the new Mercedes-AMG GT S a silhouette, which is difficult to ignore.
The sports car is powered by 4.0-litre V8 twin turbo petrol engine that develops 50bhp at 6,250rpm and 650Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. AMG V8 engine has two turbochargers that are not mounted on the outside of the cylinder banks, but inside the V configuration that aids compact engine design, optimum better performance from the turbochargers and low exhaust gas emissions. The car runs from 0 to 100km in just 3.8 seconds before reaching the electronically limited speed of 310km.
The GT S comes as standard with a mechanical rear-axle locking differential with an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential. The AMG Ride Control sports suspension with electronically controlled damping which is exclusive for GT S trim. The suspension setup lets the driver to adjust the damping characteristics at the push of a button in the AMG Drive Unit or by using the AMG Dynamic Select drive modes. The three available stages are; Comfort, Sport and Sport plus. Mercedes-Benz is also offering over 10,000 unique configurations with AMG GT S under 'designo'. The customisation options will include 7 exterior colour options, 6 upholstery options, 4 alloy wheel design options, 3 seat belt colour options, 4 trim options, and 5 optional packages.
