After setting up a benchmark with the 250cc engine on their FZ, now Yamaha turned their attention towards the sports touring segment. They had rolled the Fazer25, featuring 250cc engine in the Indian market.
The Engine and Performance
The Fazer25 is powered by the same 249cc, single cylinder, 4-stroke engine found in the FZ25. It meshed with a 5-speed constant gearbox and delivering a maximum power of 20.9 Ps and peak torque of 20 Nm. Like the FZ25, it gets an advanced fuel injection system and improved oil-cooler for better heat dissipation. According to Yamaha, Fazer25 is expected to deliver smooth power curve and initial torque that suits comfortable long-distance rides. The unique hemispherical combustion chamber, the lightweight forged aluminium piston, plated cylinder and thin piston rings help in delivering high performance and impressive machine. Moreover, Yamaha has finely tuned their 250cc engine which is optimized for the Indian highways.
The Design and Features
The cosmetic department makes Fazer25 a unique and different bike from the FZ25. The new stylish LED headlamp and the aerodynamic cowl with wind protectors steal the first glimpse of Fazer25. The lighting department makes the new Fazer25 a different bike. In addition to the primary LED headlight, it gets dual auxiliary LED lights for more illumination. The Fazer gets a finely shaped, large fuel tank with a capacity of 14 litres assures a minimum of 600 km on a single stretch. Other advanced features include multifunctional LCD instrument console with real-time mileage meter, dual horn with higher & lower Decibel options, split seats made of slip-resistant material and daytime LED position lights.
The aerodynamic aids used in this bike is unique, well-contoured and looks stylish in the new flying colours. These are the perfect outfit for a touring machine as strong opposing winds can be unbearable at times.
Chassis, Suspension and Braking
The Fazer25 gets the same diamond type chassis found in the FZ25. In order to enhance the touring capabilities, the bike gets a lightweight link-less monocross suspension at the rear and front fork gets 41 mm inner tubes for comfort and seamless rides. It provides an excellent shock-absorbing performance and good stability. The braking duties of the Fazer are controlled by disc brakes at both the ends.
The Conclusion
The Yamaha Fazer25 is more likely to face off with the Bajaj RS 200, even though it is not an adventure tourer. Moreover, Bajaj has recently discontinued their adventure sports tourer Pulsar AS 200 due to the BS-IV emission norms. Yamaha has played brilliantly with the pricing of Fazer25 to more convenient figure rather than exceeding the 1.4 lakh limit. This new offering is expected to offer a healthy competition to the likes of Bajaj RS 200, Suzuki Gixxer SP and the upcoming TVS RR 310S.
