The Royal Enfield Motorcycles are one of the oldest two-wheeler manufacturers established at the Redditch Factory in England. However, the company continues to manufacture motorcycles for their international market from the year 1901 to this day without any roadblocks. Until this period, they had made classic single & twin cylinder engines in various capacities for their different offerings. It includes the Interceptor, Constellation, Crusaders, Meteors, GT and the iconic Bullet. Among those classic bikes of the early 90s, the Fury 175 is a well-known model among the motorcycle enthusiasts.

The Fury is known as Royal Enfield Fury 175 in India. Originally, it was the Zundapp Kardan 175 or KS 175 manufactured by the German maker Zündapp. What Royal Enfield did was assembling the bikes from its CKD units in the Enfield facility. It was started in the year 1984, Enfield acquired the license copy of Zundaap Kardan Fury 175 and started importing the parts to India when Zundaap ceased their operation and closed their factories in Germany. Back in Europe, Zündapp was considered as one of the reputed brands which used to produce 800 cc twin and four cylinder motorcycles for the German military. Even the BMW was asked to get a license from Zundapp to manufacture bikes in the country.

In 1959, the Royal Enfield had developed a 500cc Fury from the cycle parts of RE Bullet such as alloy barrel with cast iron liner and high compression piston. This tuned engine used to deliver a maximum power of 40 bhp in place the place 27 bhp by the Bullet. The KS 175 aka Fury 175 gets the same gearbox used in 100, 125 and 150 Fury models in both air and liquid cooled formats. Interestingly, it was the first bike in India to feature five-speed gearbox, hydraulic Brembo disc brake and a hard chromed cylinder barrel. Moreover, the Fury range of models was popular in the motorcycle races. The Zundaap brand has won as many as 8000 medals in various levels of races. It did he appeared in some serious off-roading events with optional off-roading outfits.
