i have an re 1976 the engine no starts with g is it a g2 model
I have 1971 Royal Enfield model
i want information about engine an it is are Indian made or England (g2 or b1)
thanks in advance
From 1969 eng numbers started B the the actual serial number xxxxx / followed by a single number: 9 = 1969, 1 = 1971 etc and then a letter that denotes the month. This continued until 1982 when the number sequence changed again, B followed by the 'year' code letter, then serial number XXXXXX.
Last English made G2 supplied to India was in 1964. ALL engines and gear box after 1964 were entirely of Indian assembly, made from local and imported parts.
Last parts supplied from England was the Con-rod, in 1976. From 1976 on the Bullet is entirely of Indian manufacture.
Thank you.

UK Royal Enfield Owners Club chairman here.
In the postings on this forum, there is an awful lot of rubbish regarding B1 engine numbers. It is true that the Enfield India factory changed from the UK style G2 prefix to B, but they NEVER stamped their engines B1.
If you do have an engine with a B1/ prefix, it will have been added by whoever restored the bike !!!
Showing a additional no. on chasis.
