Yamaha SR400 To Rule Indian Roads

Yamaha Motors India may launch the SR400 in India - Rumour

From the clan of the RX100 and the RD350, a similar bike is all set to dominate the Indian bike industry. If rumors are to be believed, Yamaha may launch the 37 year old vintage edition of the SR400 in India.

For any retro bike enthusiast, kick starting the Yamaha SR400 would be a memorable experience. Powered by a 390cc, air-cooled, two-valve, single cylinder, SOHC engine which generates 23bhp of horsepower at 6500 rpm and a torque of 27.4 Nm at 3000rpm, this bike has remained the same all through the years.

The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a multi plate clutch system. The motto-rad is expected to have hydraulic 268mm disc brakes for the front and 150 mm drum brakes for the rear side which makes the braking system strong and effective.

Small and compact, the SR400 is a claimed 175kg bike that is always ready for a ride. A 30.9 inch seat height and exceptional narrowness makes the bike very easy to handle. It is expected to have an extended wheelbase of 1409mm which would guarantee a flawless riding experience. It is also featured with a 12.10L fuel tank capacity which doesn't disappoint you on long rides. It is expected to be the most fuel efficient motorcycle.

The single headlight of SR400 allows you to get a clear view of the roads at night. However, the motorcycle has no expected storage space. It comes in the same single colour option- Liquid Graphite. The expected price of SR400 in India may be close to Rs. 3.8 lakhs.

I am badly waiting to see this bike on Indian roads, as long as success is concerned a bike is no always about bigger and faster but the thrill an fun on 2 wheel and a machine. Yes when you launch a bike in India PRICE is a big factor.

If the pricing is on par with the 350 Enfields, Yamaha have a winner on their hands here.

Hopefully, enough is saved for it.
By Karma on 26-11-2015
Looks great without any change from 1978 model SR400, expects build quality and technically improved by fuel injection and hope decent fuel efficiency, reminding RD 350 almost, definitely priced more, company ruining enthusiasts by selling its unchangable classic style and looks, this steed can break Royal Enfeilds battle in Indian market, hope this come to India soon
By Joe Kalloorethu on 16-11-2015
For Yamaha sr400 to succeed in India, my thoughts are :
clip on handle bars with nice mirrors
Front and rear disc brakes
Fog lights, pass lights, engine kill switch,
Electric start option, choke start button,
Thicker tyres with good grip, stylish but rugged rear tail light, stylish indicators, maintainable free battery.
Price around 1.5 Lacs
By Parvas24 on 02-10-2015
Certainly overpriced. should be btwn 1.8 to 2.2lakh .
By Naman on 13-06-2015
I am very much excited this model when gonna be launch in India?excellent looks, specifiaction & features are good. price is little high but it's worth.Defenetly I will buy this upon lauched.
By Ramiz on 26-05-2015
i'm very much interested to buy rd350 1st version japanese, after seeing sr400 i became fan of this vintage beauty just amazing looks.
By Shah on 22-05-2015
If they release with 3.5lakh price tag yamaha wont see much success. They will fail like the suzuki inazuma which was a great bike but failed coz of the expensive price tag. BUT!!!! If yamaha releases this with a price tag of somewhere around 2.0-2.2 lakhs, SR 400 is gonna rule the roads and rip the pants off Royal Enfield
By Manoj on 01-04-2015
this is only the bike to increase their company sales and reputation in india. why because after declining from YAMAHA RX-100 yamaha company lose their market share in two wheeler industry. if they want over come from this problem yamaha should need to launch this bike in indian market. and it should look like as RX-100 and RX-135 so their is no option for yamaha to over come from this problem. and as per indian people height also this models is more comfort.
By Uday on 22-01-2015
Looks damn good. But the price is too high for Indian customers. Yamaha needs to rethink its strategy. Maybe those who like to buy retro looking overprized motorcycles will grab this.
By Tom Joseph on 16-01-2015
This machine has a lot of character. It's a style over specification bike. Big singles always have a special place. Thumping sound and vibration from the engine is a real treat for motorcycle lovers.
By Kumar on 16-01-2015
Certainly overpriced! Let's wait n watch how the market gonna react.
By Jose Gonsalo on 16-01-2015
Its not gonna win in here, design and style are not the only matter that a rider needs. 30 years back it was a hit but same design and concept now? I guess Yamaha should have rethinked about adding on a little more features too.. Best of Luck with the bike.
