Mahindra has been in the limelight ever since they started acquiring some renowned motorcycles brands around the world. And BSA Motorcycles from Great Britain is their latest asset, bought through their own Classic Legends Pvt Ltd. CLPL has acquired 100 percent shares of BSA by spending 28 crore. Mahindra owns 60% stake hold of Classic Legends and they have bought all the 1.2 lakh shares of BSA. The whole acquisition process will be expected to complete by 5th November this year.
BSA was initially a gun making company, which has branched out to make bicycles and motorcycles from 1910. They have a wide market space in countries like Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Mexico and Canada. After the acquisition of Peugeot Motorcycles from Italy, Mahindra was after the British couple Norton and BSA. Therefore the purchase of BSA was not all a surprise news.
Mahindra 2 Wheelers have been tasting failures for a while with their each and every models. And through acquisitions like these, they can establish themselves as a global motorcycle manufacturer by offering premium and world class products. Their subsidiaries like Peugeot and Pininfarina could be useful to revive the BSA brand and also to develop new products under the BSA name. Mahindra may even try to imitate the product growth of Triumph in BSA line up, as Triumph was under the belt of BSA and both were leading bike makers in UK during 1950-60.
Anyway being an Indian, it is truly a delightful and even prideful moment to say that BSA belongs to our Mahindra. And lets see what Mahindra can bring out from the legendary BSA in near future.
Mahindra 2 Wheelers has bought all the stakes of the British bike making company, the BSA Motorcycles this month.
